Health and Wellness
Our Commitment
At the Treasure Beach Women’s Group (TBWG), we believe that good health is the foundation of a thriving community. From women and children to the elderly, we focus on meeting immediate health needs while building toward a long-term vision: a fully equipped community health centre that brings care and resources together under one roof.
Mammogram Support
Early detection saves lives. With the support of Global Humanitarian Mission, Pothula and Parchment Inc. Ltd, and other generous donors, TBWG covers the cost of mammograms for women in our community.
Our team helps by:
- Making appointments with trusted providers
- Coordinating transportation (patients cover the transport fee)
- Providing guidance and follow-up so results are collected and next steps are supported

Eyeglass Assistance
Clear vision changes lives. TBWG connects residents with eye exams and helps them purchase eyeglasses, ensuring children can succeed in school and adults can work safely and productively.

Wellness Education
Knowledge is power. Through workshops and community talks, we provide education on:
- Nutrition and healthy eating
- Reproductive health
- Stress management
- Chronic disease prevention
- Hygiene sensitization
Spay & Neuter Clinic
TBWG partnered with the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) to host a spay and neuter clinic in Treasure Beach.
This initiative helped reduce the number of feral cats, which had become a community nuisance, and also addressed the issue of aggressive dogs attacking residents. By humanely managing the animal population, we not only improve animal welfare, but also make the community safer and healthier for everyone.
The Treasure Beach Health Centre
The Treasure Beach Health Centre (TBHC) was born out of TBWG’s work. After Hurricane Ivan in 2004 destroyed our small building, volunteers from the U.S., led by Janet Nichols, came to rebuild. With local support and Peace Corps grants, the new structure included exam rooms—planting the seeds for a healthcare initiative.
Soon after, TBWG began hosting groups of doctors, nurses, and medical students, who visited Treasure Beach to provide care. What began as small medical missions grew into the Treasure Beach Community Health Initiative, which has served thousands of residents and students over the past decade.
Celeste Anderson, one of our founding members, played an instrumental role in coordinating the health clinic with doctors and nurses from the Hillsborough and Pinellas County Osteopathic Societies and LeCom Medical School, who continue to visit Treasure Beach each year to serve the community.
The TBHC is still in the developing stage, but with government support and strong partnerships, itis moving toward becoming a full-time community health centre that will serve the 3,500+ residents of Treasure Beach and the many visitors who come to our shores.
Mammogram Support
A properly equipped and staffed centre will:
- Provide year-round care, including preventivescreenings and maternal/child health services
- Increase safety and wellbeing for residents and visitors alike
- Offer training opportunities for local health workers through visiting doctors and nurses
- Lay the foundation for a 24-hour emergency clinic in the future
